ABOUT EMS

EMS stands for Electro-Muscle-Stimulation. It is a game-changing technology transforming the way we work out and approach fitness. EMS significantly increases the effectiveness of physical exercise by improving muscle contraction through the use of precisely placed and dosed electrical impulses.

The principle has been used successfully in physiotherapy and in the training of top athletes for over 40 years. FITTECH Boutique uses innovative devices developed and manufactured in Germany to make this technology available to you.

  • What is EMS Training?
EMS stands for electro muscle stimulation and is one of the most efficient training methods from Germany to train all major muscles simultaneously through precisely placed and dosed electric impulses. At FITTECH Boutique, we use EMS Training to help our clients build muscles, burn fat, get rid off back pain and keep their bodies in shape with 20-minute workout sessions once or twice a week. EMS Training is a full-body resistance workout that allows up to 90% of muscles to be contracted simultaneously at a much higher intensity than in a conventional gym workout.
  • How soon will I see the results?
You will most likely feel muscle soreness a day or two after your first EMS training session. After roughly 6 to 8 sessions of consistent training (6 to 8 weeks), you will not only feel but also start seeing a visible difference from the EMS training in the form of gradually increased muscle formation and a reduction in body fat (depending on your diet). As with conventional training, EMS training should be done regularly to ensure and maintain optimal results. Results may vary depending on your body type, lifestyle, the level of training before starting EMS training, as well as the frequency and intensity with which you train. If you are suffering from back pain, you might already see significant improvement after 3-4 sessions. Why don’t you give it a try and book your trial EMS session at one of our studios here.
  • Are 20 minutes of workout per week enough to see results?
During EMS Training sessions at FITTECH, all major muscle groups are contracted in 4 seconds intervals with 4 seconds rest in between. This means in 20 minutes all major muscle groups experience 10 minutes of contraction time. This is a multiple of what is possible in a conventional gym session where you train each muscle group separately with only a few seconds of actual muscle contraction time. This is why one 20-minute training session per week is sufficient. In case you want to progress faster and in consultation with the EMS trainer, two sessions per week might be possible, depending on your body’s level of fitness and resilience. A recovery time of at least 72 hours after each training is however recommended in order to avoid overtraining, which can be counterproductive. For best results, regular weekly time slots are highly recommended in order to maintain training consistency, one of the keys to achieving your goals. Why don’t you give it a try and book your trial EMS session at one of our studios here.

  • What does Sport Science say about EMS training?
EMS training has been used for decades in the fields of sports medicine and rehabilitation, mainly applied to individual damaged muscles to help them regenerate. Over the last 15 years, whole-body EMS training has become popular as the most efficient way to work out. It started in Germany and quickly gained popularity in Europe, the US, the Middle East, Australia and more recently in Asia. A wealth of research and clinical studies on the effectiveness of EMS training exists from reputable institutions. Some of the most cited findings are: Positive training effects on muscle mass (Kemmler & Von Stengel, 2013). Significant improvements in speed and maximum strength after a period of EMS training. German Sports University Cologne (Filipovic et al., 2012; Speicher et al., 2008) EMS training has significantly enhanced soccer-relevant performance capacities in professional players when compared to conventional training of the same nature (Filipovic et al., 2016). Significant levels of pain relief through EMS training in participants suffering from back pain. German Sports University of Cologne (Weissenfels et al., 2018) EMS training has shown to be an effective training method for the elderly (Kemmler & Von Stengel, 2012). Whole-Body Electromyostimulation Improves Performance-Related Parameters in Runners (Amaro-Gahete et al., 2018). But nothing tops trying it out and feeling the result first-hand. • Is EMS training safe?
Yes, EMS training is one of the safest ways to work out. It is a non-invasive and safe method to build muscles, burn fat and relieve back pain. EMS Training imitates the body’s natural way to contract muscles. When we use our muscles to e.g. lift our arm, the brain sends an electrical signal to the nerves responsible for contracting the muscles necessary to perform this task. In EMS training the same method is used, only instead of the signal coming from our brain, it comes from the EMS machine. As in EMS training no heavy weights are used, it is a lot more gentle on our joints, ligaments, spine etc than conventional resistance training. The risk of injuring yourself in an EMS session is virtually zero. In addition, all our EMS sessions are conducted by a specialised EMS trainer with a maximum of 2 clients per trainer. We exclusively use German EMS technology from Miha-Bodytec as it is the only medically certified EMS device which was widely recognised in scientific and medical research over the decades. There are a few medical conditions for which there is insufficient research to guarantee that EMS training is safe. Those include: Pregnancy; Pacemaker or other electrical implants; Acute illness, such as fever, viral infections or acute inflammatory processes; and Having undergone major surgery in the last 2 months. We don’t recommend EMS training in the above cases. In case of doubt, consent from your Medical Doctor is recommended.
  • Does it hurt?
No, any type of physical training is an activity that requires you to get out of your comfort zone, but never to hurt you! EMS training is performed at high-intensity levels for a period of 20 minutes. During training, low-frequency impulses stimulate your muscles while you perform specific exercises. You will always work with a personal trainer, who will adjust your individual training settings according to your training level.
  • How many times should I train?
In order to achieve the most effective results for muscular adaptation and physical functioning, your body needs time to rest and recover. Depending on the assessment of our trainer and your individual plan it is recommended to have one to two sessions per week.
  • Can I attend with a friend?
Absolutely! Get in touch with your Trainer to fix a session for both of you and explore what benefits you can get.
  • I haven't hit the gym in years. How can I come back to the routine?
EMS training is perfect for people like you. Not only do you avoid the risk of injuring yourself when starting to work out again, as no heavy weights are involved, but you also require much less time. Only 1 to 2 sessions of 20 min is enough to get in shape and grow your muscles, making it much easier to fit your workout into your busy schedule.
